Fare thee well, Kamau.

It is with sad faces that yesterday we bade farewell to one of Kenya’s gallant son on the tracks. Our hopes of seeing his smiling face first at the finish line at the next marathon and the next and the next.............. were buried in that white tiled 6ft hole.
I bid farewell to a man who has made my tears flow without restraint from the immense pride of having Kenya’s beautiful flag hoisted up high and our National Anthem sang on world podiums, where he put it. The man who entered that Beijing stadium and did a full lap with no doubt WE had the Gold.

I bid farewell to a man who died so young and I weep for his beloved children who due to their tender ages may not fully comprehend the loss; they probably think he is abroad racing.

Thie na wega Kamau, muteng'eri njorua

Rest In Peace Samuel Kamau Wanjiru.
