Another Sporty Friday
TerryJuly 22, 2011 1 comments

Last Friday I was at my daughter’s sports day, today I was at my son’s. Talk about sports galore! I was seriously considering missing this one because unlike my daughter’s school which is pre-primary only with about fifty children, my son’s school has baby class, nursery, pre-unit, class one to eight as well as an autism section, on top of that it’s a public school so you can imagine the pupils population, it’s well over a thousand and my son is not active in sports, that makes me a total spectator at the event.
I went anyway because he asked me to, I promised I would go at noon. I’m a good Mom who keeps her word hence my kids learn ‘word of honour’ from me. Like majority of events on this side of the hemisphere, it started hours late. It was supposed to begin at 10am and end at 1pm yet they started the first race when I arrived at 12:15pm, or maybe they were waiting for yours truly? Huh!
I have more fun than presumed but we had to leave early, my son was bored to the core of cheering and sitting in the sun. As always, I took photos, take a glance ...........

Wonderful Wednesday
TerryJuly 20, 2011 0 comments

Unlike the last today Wednesday, today was a good one.

I tried a Yoga pose that I saw in www.womenshealth.co.za , it’s so good for stretching and warm down. It feels a bit weird though, I've never done yoga but am keen to learn other poses so that when I don't go to the gym, I can do Yoga, self-taught and tailored for and by me, as usual.

Later there was career fair at the Campus auditorium. There were so many companies to sample as well as forums for corporates to give tips to students. One of the speakers was Fatuma Hirsi Mohamed, a  lady I hold in high regard for her wholesome ethics, passion to mentor, urge to learn amongst many other aspects. I last saw her in Summer 2010 when she was an adjunct at the University and taught me History and Theory of Public Relations. It was a class we, my classmates and I, enjoyed thoroughly. We had loads of fun and learned so much, we still reminisce her lectures and assignments, and great friendships developed from that class.
Through my interaction with her, I learnt Fatuma is actually a distant cousin of Mr. (that makes her my cousin as well) and she has become a fountain to many of my quests despite the fact that we communicate via e-mail. It was such a joy to see her after a long time!

My Poetry beyond cultures class was awesome! We are learning about the Harlem Renaissance and today the Lecturer brought a film Madea’s big happy family and the challenge / assignment is to relate the two, the movie and the renaissance.

Today, I've have this jolly good Wednesday feeling since morning and it has certainly been it. So much bliss!

Disappointment Wednesday

Wednesday 13th July 2011, a disappointing day indeed. My group and I were doing our advert critique today. We had three ads, one we thought was bad, the other – average and the 3rd was really good. My friend Irene and I were critiquing the ‘bad’ advert and it was first on the presentation. Maybe we should have let the good one start because, mmmhhhmmm !! The Lecturer completely roasted our critique, and he totally murdered our opinions. He interjected quarter way saying how powerful the ad was and went ahead to invite the rest of the class to give their opinions. There we were, Irene and I, standing awkwardly in front of the lecture room with our thoughts now scattered all over with even no chance to defend our position.
eish, I thought in university everybody is entitled to their own opinion (having independent thoughts is in fact encouraged!)as long as they can convincingly defend their position. The presentation was such a disaster so much so that when the mantle was on us to continue, all we could manage to do was press the keyboard arrow to the next slide and let the class read for themselves as we sat down with our heads on our chests. I have never felt so academically low and challenged, not even in Math class where the lectured used to say I ‘cook’ my own methodology to arrive at the correct answer. He always listened to my arguments, I could have been inventing a new formula, you know?
Towards the end of the same class (Advertising), I received a text message that I had to pick my elder daughter from school because she was feeling unwell, in the middle of exams. I had visited her on Friday and Sunday, she was in perfect health, now this? Mr. and I went to pick her up. She had a fever, chest and joint pains - totally bad signs for a girl who suffers from Rheumatic Heart Disease. We took her to the Doctor who gave her some medication and said she’d be okay to resume her exams tomorrow (Thursday).
As I was unpacking my gym bag in the evening, I noticed I forgot to pack my sports shoes, the expensive motivational ones that hubby got me. =((
Oh no, not another frustration! I’ve had enough for the next two months.  I called my friend who resides in campus to check if they are still in the gym bathroom where I left them, and of course as I had expected, there were nowhere to be found. Somebody had decided to help themselves to a pair of nice looking shoes or as we say in Kenya, somebody decided to kuniwekea poa.
By the time I went to sleep, my head was aching and I had to take a painkiller. Sometimes life is on a down, but then again, tomorrow is a new day full of hopes and opportunities. I will make my bliss then.

Sights and Likes
TerryJuly 11, 2011 0 comments

When I started gymming on Tuesday, May 24th 2011, my attire was black track pants, a black sprite t-shirt I got from CocaCola and some  navy blue ngoma rubber shoes I bought sometime back from Bata for a reason I can’t remember. Mmhhhmmm! Kinda dull but I had made the resolve to start exercising no matter what. I did not want to give myself excuses for not starting immediately, tomorrow never comes, you know!  Gracias Adios the Mr. bought me a great pair of running shoes expensive too
On resuming after the ankle injury and exams, I gave a mini face-lift to my gear, it’s now bright and bubbly, like me. No doubt the past three weeks has been exercisingly awesome.
Feng Shui goes on and on and on about how important colour is in every aspect of life. I used to think it was loads of blubber but now I’m of a different opinion and yes, it works! especially yellow.
When I was in the black apparel, I had to wait until someone (read guy) finishes to use an equipment before my turn and had to do the adjustments myself, not so many people said hi to me apart from those that I’ve shared classes with and no one was helpful when I was having trouble with a routine but OMG! All that is past tense now, ha!
The new colours seemed to have worked magic, or maybe it’s the short that has replaced the long mathee pants? or is it the fab yellow tee? I don’t know but I’m having the time of my life. I no longer wait for equipment to be unoccupied instead the offers to alternate have been overflowing and I don’t have to worry about adjustments (which was the cause of my injury by the way), it’s done for me, suddenly majority of the gym regulars are saying hi, some even chatting. Oh, and you should have seen three guys today, all trying to help me with a new routine that the trainer recommended, and the hi-5s when I finally got it right. I’m enjoying this, which woman wouldn’t?
Note: the above paragraph may contain some slight exaggerations.

Either way, I’m living in colour and taking advantage of all the little joys of life that it will afford me.

Add some colour to your life today and enjoy the moments and bliss.

Sneezy Wednesday
TerryJuly 6, 2011 2 comments

Today I didn't feel like waking up, I really toyed with the idea of calling in sick and staying home all day but against all the resistance of my sinuses I got up, got ready and off for the day. I'm feeling quite under the weather thanks to the flu bug that caught me unawares.

I dragged my self to the campus sanatorium this morning only to find they are running low on medical supplies so I couldn't get the medication that the clinician recommended and had to do with alternatives that the pharmacist advised. The way I was feeling at that time, I could have taken a placebo had they given it to me, anything to get this flu under control. That done, it was time to get on with my full schedule of the day.

I'm glad I attended classes because I momentarily forgot the flu and enjoyed loads of knowledge and laughter. My advertising lecturer is hilariously funny in his own VERY unique way, the poetry lecturer made us stand up and dance to music that we like, the print class was exciting as usual with lots of insights and opinions.

My day wasn't exactly moments and bliss, que es la vida (that's life), but am glad I got out of bed this morning.

The flu will soon be gone and the bubble and spark will be back, in multiple measures !
